The department was established in early 2013. It acts as a bridge between the hospital and the community at large and works in various community related activities
DEPARTMENT OF NURSING
Nursing services at KIDI is as old as the Institute itself. As the nurses did provide care of post operative nature prior to discovery of antibiotic active against susceptive Tuberculosis (1943) nurses activities were narrowed to sanatorium perspective.
The department of pharmacy has not remained static in the process of KIDH transforming to KIDH. Striving to meet the demand of the Inpatients and Out Patients the department has played a paramount role of being the hub for distribution of the MDR-TB Drugs to the entire country.
The vision of the hospital was coined in 2013 as spring leading the hospital towards becoming a centre of Excellence for controlling and managing infectious diseases in the Sub Saharan Africa region.
To contribute to the national efforts for diagnosis and treatment of TB, TB/HIV, MDRTB, HIV and other infectious diseases. To increase community participation in health awareness, care and prevention, especially related to the effects of stigma, gender inequity and culture To build the capacity of hospital staff to provide state of the art care and follow up for patients with infectious disease To establish Kibong’oto as a Institute for training in infectious disease management To establish Kibong’oto as an Infectious Diseases Institute for research To establish KNTH as the Kibong’oto Infectious Disease Institute to lead the country in management of infectious diseases and serve as a reference center in the region To establish and strengthen the management structures (committees, boards, division and departments) and systems, such as IMS, M&E and QI, supervision To improve the infrastructure for care, research and training To secure and manage resources for achieving the strategic plan results.
