The research activities at Kibong’oto Infectious Diseases Hospital goes way back to the time of colonial period where a lot of research was being done in related to Tuberculosis Disease. This established the Kibong’oto as the Hallmark and Icon for research undertakings which led to discovery of anti-TB drugs for combating and treatment of TB Disease as pandemic. Notable researcher who spearheaded the research during that time is Robert Kotch. Following independence in 1961, the hospital still followed the trail of receiving many research projects aimed at informing and influencing the paradigms in the management of infectious diseases and reshaping the policy in responding to emerging and re-emerging diseases.

With capacity building among employees across varied cadres, the hospital has become the hub of research undertaking both nationally and internationally since the first Kibong’oto own grown researchers rooted on research implementations since 2015. Currently the Hospital is the lead powerhouse in the production of young researchers and laid down the blue print for reconstitute of Multidrug Resistance Tuberculosis, Tuberculosis, HIV and other infectious diseases as we are approaching the 2035 End TB strategy.

To amass the objectives and goals of the Directorate, a concerted move has been taken in Grant Proposal Writing for Infectious Diseases Interventions to ensure required resources for research undertakings are made available. Dissemination of the research findings through various outlets has been a prime priority locally and international to ensure our research products are consume by relevant bodies such as World Health Organization. Nevertheless, the Directorate produces manuscript for approval and publications in various engines including website.

In order to authenticate publications Clinical Trials (All Phase) are being conducted here at Kibong’oto Hospital since 2015 where some are of Muti-Site in the nature of randomization.

The Directorate as well plans and coordinates the initiation of research study protocol as well as expanding the established Research capacity to provide solution for re-emerging infectious diseases

Training also based on short term and long terms has been an anchor for coming up with competent experts. Levels for long term training are Masters of Science, PhD and Postdoctoral accessed locally and internationally which much is in the mode of mentoring candidates to become the next generation scientific gurus in infectious diseases research undertakings.

Due to vast knowledge garnered on areas of Infectious Diseases Research, the Directorate has been offering Consultancy services to other health institutions and experts handling infectious diseases patients with complications such as extensive drug-resistant tuberculosis
