KIDH hosts a state-of-the-art Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory facility dedicated to advanced diagnostics, reference testing, and infectious disease research.

The laboratory is equipped with sophisticated phenotypic and molecular platforms including:
- PCR technologies (Conventional, Real-Time, and Digital PCR)
- Sequencing technologies
- Immunoassay systems
- Clinical chemistry analyzers
- Hematology analyzers
- HLA typing capabilities
Biobanking Services
- Secure biorepository capacity of up to 47,000 litres of biospecimens
- Long-term storage supporting research and surveillance activities
Training & Fellowship Programs
- Training for healthcare providers and biomedical scientists
- Fellowship programs in infectious disease laboratory sciences
Quality & Accreditation
The laboratory operates under a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS) and has been ISO 15189 accredited by the Southern African Development Community Accreditation Service (SADCAS) since 2017.
The laboratory is currently transitioning into a National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory, strengthening its leadership role in TB diagnostics and surveillance.
