Welcome to Kibong’oto Infectious Diseases Hospital, a center of excellence dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and control of infectious diseases in Tanzania and beyond. Established in 1926, Kibong’oto has evolved from a tuberculosis sanatorium into a leading national referral hospital for infectious diseases, recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and public health impact. Since 2006, the Ministry of Health has entrusted Kibong’oto with the management of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), reinforcing the hospital’s strategic role in the national health system. Today, the hospital provides comprehensive services for tuberculosis, TB/HIV co-infection, MDR-TB, HIV, and a broad range of other infectious and non-communicable diseases. With a capacity of 300 beds and a team of more than 300 dedicated and highly skilled professionals, Kibong’oto is committed to delivering patient-centered, high-quality healthcare services. In addition to clinical care, the hospital plays a critical role in training, research, disease surveillance, and health systems strengthening. Through strong collaborations with national, regional, and international partners, Kibong’oto continues to advance knowledge, improve health outcomes, and strengthen preparedness and response to emerging infectious disease threats.
